How it all started...
It started in 2016 with a single shoebox. Kendra had been holding onto a collection of photos since college, and Brandon decided to scan them so we'd have digital backups. He started tagging locations and estimating dates from context clues (and notes scribbled on the back!). It turned into a relaxing hobby, and later that year he started borrowing albums from his parents' house to do the same.
20,000 photos of the Catron/Struve family later, it became a full-blown quest: a comprehensive family library. Scrapbooks, loose prints, and aging albums from every branch of the family tree. Then came facial-recognition software and a year-long project to put a name to every face in a 150,000-image library!!
Add 20+ years of our own digital camera and phone pictures, and the archive now holds over 170,000 photos, sorted into shareable albums and hosted on our own server. No big-tech cloud. Our pictures, our rules!!
